Arsene Wenger has hailed midfielder Mesut Ozil for playing an integral role in the club’s 3-2 win over Ludogorets in the Champions League.
Arsenal have managed to qualify for the last 16 of the competition as a result of this victory. They will now be appearing in the knockout stages for a 17th consecutive campaign. Manager Arsene Wenger deserve a lot of credit for achieving this record even during difficult times. Right now, though, Arsenal have a number of superstars in their squad with Ozil being one of them. The German managed to come up with a late winner to help Arsenal return home with all three points.
There was a danger of Arsenal dropping two crucial points as the game was 2-2 going into the last few moments. It would not have been the end of the world for Arsenal given that there are still two more games left in the group stages, but it would have put them in a panicking mode going into the last two games. Arsenal made an extremely poor start in the game and were 2-0 down after just 15 minutes.
Jonathan Cafu and Keșerü managed to give the home team an impressive start, but Xhaka and Olivier Giroud got Arsenal level before Ozil fired up the winner with just three minutes of normal time remaining.
“I would say great players make the right decisions in the game situations they face. They take the optimum solution. To me, it didn’t look like the optimum solution. You wanted him to take the chance earlier. But he had enough skill to prove he was right. When the ball was in the back of the net, it was clear it had been the optimum solution. You get belief with positive results, and this shows a healthy mentality in the group. The two together come out in these kind of games,” said Wenger.
