Arsenal may be forced to step into the transfer market in January after Arsene Wenger witnessed yet another major injury trouble for one of his defenders after the match against Stoke City.
The gunners managed a positive 3-0 victory, but this return of three points was not without its disadvantages. Mathieu Debuchy, who was signed in the summer from Newcastle for around £ 10 million, was expected to be a major player for Arsenal. He was the replacement for Bacary Sagna, who left the club on a free transfer to Manchester City.
Since signing for Arsenal, though, Debuchy has played in only 10 league outings. He spent the last three months on the side-lines due to a major knee injury. Now, he is set for more time on the treatment table. Wenger has confirmed that the player has dislocated his shoulder during the win over Stoke City. However, Wenger has failed to disclose the time he will spend on the sidelines. The 29-year-old lasted only 13 minutes in the match that turned out to be an impressive spectacle for the Arsenal supporters. Laurent Koscielny opened the scoring within six minutes and Alexis Sanchez continued his impressive form by scoring two more goals.
“It’s dislocated so will take a while. He will have to see a specialist. We missed the start of the game at Stoke and paid for it. This time we put them on the back foot,” said Wenger. However, it was not all bad news for the Frenchman as he confirmed that Mesut Ozil is close to making his first start for the club after several months on the sidelines. “He lacks match fitness but he’s fit physically. He’ll be back fully in two to three weeks,” continued the Frenchman. Arsenal have a major match against archrivals Manchester City next week.
