Lacazette had scored in two successive home games against Liverpool and was bidding to become the first Arsenal player to score in three straight home matches against Liverpool since Robert Pires achieved the feat.
In the end, Lacazette and Arsenal failed to score against Liverpool when the two teams met in the Premier League at the start of the month. Lacazette was unable to match the record of Robert Pires as the Gunners were on the receiving end of a 3-0 thrashing at the hands of Liverpool.

The Reds were able to record their first away win over Arsenal in the league since August 2016. Liverpool had not beaten Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium since the dramatic 4-3 win on the opening weekend of the 2016/17 Premier League season.

Liverpool dominated the game from start to finish and were rewarded with three goals in the second half with in-form Diogo Jota coming off the bench to score the opening goal of the match via a header from the delivery from the wounded Trent Alexander-Arnold. The Liverpool right-back showed his worth after being left out of the England squad for the qualifiers last month ahead of Qatar 2022 World Cup.

Jota was on fire for Portugal during their opening 2022 World Cup qualifiers and he was able to maintain that form after coming on against the Gunners. He scored the third and clinching goal for the Reds after Mohamed Salah had added a second for the Merseyside giants.

Liverpool have now won five of their trips to London this season in the league. The only exception was the 1-1 draw at Fulham.
