Legend Carlos “El Pibe” Valderrama says that LA Galaxy may have found a special player in the form of Johnny Chavarria, who is regarded as a player with great potential. The defensive midfielder was spotted by the LA Galaxy officials using the MLS talent search. Despite being only 16 years old, he impressed heavily with his ability to understand the role and its responsibilities. The player also has an impressive pace, which has prompted Valderrama to say that the youngster appears to have a great future. Along with former greats like the Mexican goalkeeper, Martin Zuñiga, Valderrama was in attendance to see the young talents.
Valderrama was especially impressed with his ability to distribute the ball evenly by holding a balanced position in the midfield. He says that it is very important for players playing as a defensive midfielder to have good distribution. Valderrama was also impressed with the way he challenged for the ball when he did not have possession. Chavarria currently plays for Las Vegas Gunners, but he is widely expected to move to a top team in the near future. After hearing the comments from the soccer legend, Chavarria stated that he is extremely motivated and wants to become a champion in the future.
“He has a great future. He has great presence on the field, and he’s a fighter. But what impressed me was mostly his technical skill. It’s not really that easy at that age to know that position, but he has a good stance on the field, and when he has the ball, he able to distribute evenly. It’s very important for a team to have that position, that player able to hold the ball and distribute the ball, and when his team doesn’t have the ball, he’s a challenger. He goes out there and tries to obtain the ball,” said Valderrama.
